We do not believe in the traditional wine sales system. You know the drill, an importer and/or wine merchant buys a number of wines from different winemakers, puts a margin on them and prices them as if they were truly God’s gifts. The following year, by the way, completely different gifts of God can be offered with the greatest ease in the world. Purely commercial trade, in other words. Supply and demand. Where the margin to be achieved is decisive. Onlyburgundy.com works completely differently. A brief explanation:

How it
started

Decades ago, we, the eventual founders of onlyburgundy.com, came to the Burgundy region by chance. Not hindered by any knowledge of the wines, we were immediately struck by the simplicity, small scale and diversity of the villages and surroundings. The almost serene calmth. The winding roads that, as it turned out later, connect truly world-famous wine villages. The vast vineyards with their sometimes lonely-looking caretakers on them. Hardworking farmers, tending their grape vines with a lot of love and passion.

It moved us and we decided we needed to read, learn and understand everything about this wonderful region. About the people, their backgrounds, their passions and their beliefs. And, of course, about their wines. Why are these so special? What makes this wine region so unique? Why are there so many wine producers in such a relatively small area? Finally, our journey of discovery had begun.

Now, decades later, we dare to claim – with caution – to understand some things of this complex wine region. Based on almost endless conversations with Burgundy people, tastings of their wines and many trips through the region. And especially by sharing, discussing and comparing our own experiences with those of so many other Burgundy professionals and fans.

There is no greater pleasure for us than to be professionally involved with this truly amazing region every day. Hence our name; only burgundy. Yes, indeed only Burgundy. Not because wines from other regions or countries cannot be good or distinctive. But purely for the unique feeling that characterizes Burgundy.
