Discover the Viré-Clessé AOC

A true hidden treasure waiting to be discovered, the Viré-Clessé appellation gained recognition in 1998 and was officially named in 1999. Situated in the Mâconnais region and encompassing the villages of Viré, Laizé, Monbellet, and Clessé, this appellation distinguishes itself by exclusively crafting white wines from the Chardonnay grape.

Covering approximately 1.5% of the Bourgogne vineyards, this region spans 437 hectares and produces 28,000 hectoliters of wine, equivalent to over 3.7 million bottles. What sets Viré-Clessé apart within the Bourgogne landscape is its unique offering of “Viré-Clessé levroutés,” white wines containing residual sugar. These wines, named for their color resembling that of a young hare (levraut in French), have been officially recognized as part of the Viré-Clessé AOC since 2002, adding a distinctive dimension to the appellation.
